Remote Black Bear Hunt offered at Ross Lake Camps

REMOTE BEAR HUNT NOW BEING OFFERED!!
$1750.00 FULLY GUIDED

Many of our hunters have been asking for it, and now we've made it available. This is a very exclusive and limited availability hunt. The stands to be used on this Black Bear Adventure hunt are located in a 90 square mile (57,600 acres) portion of our leased bear hunting area that reasonable daily access routes were cut off to years ago due to a major bridge removal. The land base is bordered on the entire eastern side by Nature Conservancy land where bear hunting is prohibited, creating a sanctuary area for these bears to grow large and healthy. The southern boundary is the famed St. John River that will provide you breathtaking scenery during the early dawn sunrises and evening sunsets. Walk right down to the banks during your non-hunting hours, cast a lure into a pocket of water, and find yourself hooked up to Maine's strongest fighting freshwater fish, the Muskellunge. Hand pick fresh blueberries, ready to eat, from the gigantic lush patches of berries that are abundant in this territory. Company outside of your campmates, guide, and wildlife will be scarce throughout the week due to the relatively inaccessible area of this hunt.

The main natural food source for the bears in this particular area is the wild blueberry crop, and they are in great supply. The black bear population in this area is healthy and abundant from gorging themselves on the ripe berries during the mid to late summer months, and are always in great shape going into den. It is not uncommon to see Sow's with triplet cubs, and on occasion we see quad's. In prior years when we were able to hunt this area some of our largest bruins were taken off of these stands.

Scheduling for this hunt is set for arrival at camp on a Sunday prior to your Monday afternoon hunt, so there is time to meet your guide, settle in to base camp, and get your weapons sighted in to make sure everything is still in alignment after the long trip to our location. Hunting takes place Monday through Friday and departure is scheduled for Saturday morning. A maximum of 12 hunters will be accepted on the Remote, and no more than a maximum of 6 hunters in any week.

Your hunting locations will be pre-baited for 4 weeks prior to your arrival, and will be carefully set up taking prevailing winds and light conditions into account. Ground blinds and/or treestands will be in place and ready to go for the best shot opportunities available. You will be hunting with a Registered Maine Guide with extensive knowledge of bear habitat, biology, feed patterns, and travel routines.

Base camp will be set up with everything needed to make your hunt a success, and your camping stay comfortable. The main building is a 28' mobile cabin set up with complete kitchen area, and there are also 6 installed bunks with mattresses that provide ample sleeping arrangements in the event of foul weather that would not be ideal for tenting out. An outfitter wall tent, and an additional overflow tent are also provided so that sleeping arrangements are not cramped. Sun shower stalls will be provided for bathing facilities during your stay.

Your guide has many responsibilities to provide you with a first class high quality hunt, so all hunters are required to assist with daily meals, including preparation and clean-up. You have a full array of cookware, utensils, propane grill, and a complete kitchen at your disposal. We will provide you with a full dinner on Sunday evening, but after that, each hunter is required to provide the food and cooking for the camps breakfast, lunch, and dinner for one day. We have fresh produce at our disposal and will be happy to provide farm fresh corn on the cob, tomatoes, summer squash, zucchini, green peppers, and some fresh fruits as well. Also, we will supply a generous amount of snack foods for during the day and on the go activities. We will assist all hunters with coordination throughout the planning to make sure a full set of meals is accounted for each day of the hunt. Basic daily chores for camp operation such as water supply and campfire wood will also be required of all hunters.

Even though this hunt is taking place in a very remote wilderness area, there is no need to worry about the care of your trophy hide and meat. Your guide will be equipped with a portable skinning station to include a generator and freezer to ensure that you go home with your bear fully preserved. Your meat will be boned out with a basic trim, and packaged in freezer bags. Your hide will be rolled and frozen solid in preparation for your taxidermist or ours.

It is not necessary to be a world class athlete for this hunt, but due to the nature, there is a base level of physical fitness that is required. Hunters must be able to walk agilely in the woods and on uneven terrain over some boggy ground and blown down trees. You must be able to assist your guide with dragging and recovery of your bear from the woods. Sometimes a team effort is required from several hunters in camp. Recent Hip Replacements, slipped or bulging spinal discs, torn rotator cuffs and shoulder injuries, recent knee or ankle surgeries, or bad arthritis problems will prevent these activities. Your guide is wilderness first aid certified, but because of the remote location that this hunt takes place, medical help is not readily available or quickly reached. Severe health issues such as persons with advanced diabetes, Heart and lung disease, Cancer patients not in remission, and others that are at high health risk are not candidates for this hunt. Know your limitations, and do not put others at risk by withholding information and taking unnecessary risks.
